The Tactic
Selling on social media is hard. By definition, a promo post gets less reach than non-sales content.
However, there are ways to do it effectively. One of my favorite tactics is the “Shoot me a DM” type of post:
This works for a few reasons:
It generates hype with your audience and lets them know you are working on something
It forces them to DM you. They need to initiate action, which also signals people who might be more committed and willing to pay
On top of that, Jay Clouse’s example is even better because he plays with a scarcity element.
“50% off today”
This prompts people to DM him immediately because otherwise, there won't be any discount.
Another benefit of using DMs is that they protect you from failure. People don’t really know if you are getting many DMs or not.
🕵️♂️ How to steal it?
If you already have a digital product, try this tactic on a social platform where you have a bigger audience.
If you already have customers, ask them to engage with the post, giving their review of the product to boost credibility.
